In the early hours of February 11, Elena Garabedian has succumbed to health problems that have plagued her for the last year. Last month she suffered a stroke which caused her to fall and break her hip. The hip was repaired but the other health issues took their toll. She died as peaceful as possible with her son at her side.
Elena immigrated to the US in 1983, escaping the clutches of communism in Romania, in search of a better life for her son and herself, but most importantly, freedom. She was very proud when she became a US citizen in 2000 and never missed an opportunity to vote since. She really loved the new country and never looked back. She will be missed extremely.
She is survived by her son.
