Elinor E. McElwain, 88, of the 1200 block of Malta Ct., Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Born in New Jersey, Elinor served as a Navy nurse during World Word II and the Korean War and was also the Coordinator of School Nurses for Virginia Beach City Public Schools from 1968 – 1988, and a Life Master bridge player. She was a lifelong member of Galilee Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school. The widow of CDR Richard S. McElwain, she is survived by daughter, Diane Sheehan and husband Kevin, son, Richard McElwain, and daughter, Sheila Holley and husband Frank, seven grandchildren, Michelle, Allison, Richard, Katharine, Sarah, Aaron and Sean, and three great grandchildren, Eli, Audrey, and Easton. A graveside service will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
