Brattleboro: Elizabeth Eva "Betty" Druke, 80, of Frost Street in Brattleboro, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, May 10, 2011 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Betty was born July 9, 1930 at home in West Wardsboro, VT, the eldest child of Travis and Nora (Boyd) Robinson. She spent her childhood years in West Wardsboro and Newfane and was a graduate of Leland and Grey Seminary, class of '48. Following graduation, Betty worked at the Holstein Association. Her father arranged transportation to Brattleboro via a young man, Bernard W. Druke, of Williamsville. A romance blossomed and she and Bernie were married on September 24, 1949 in St. John Berchman Church of West Dummerston. They spent the next 61 years sharing life's journey. After their wedding Betty and Bernie moved to Brattleboro and started a family. Betty embraced motherhood and homemaking with joy and remained home with her children until they were teenagers. She returned to the Holstein where she retired following 29 faithful and dedicated years with the Association. She also assisted with her husband's business, Druke's Texaco, in Northfield, MA. Betty's life centered around her family and service to others. She participated fully in the lives of her three children and was a faithful volunteer and fundraiser for the Girl Scouts and Saint Michael Catholic School. She was an active communicant of Saint Michael Roman Catholic Parish, a member of AARP, and various area snowmobile clubs. Betty was a past president of the Brattleboro Woman's Evening Club, past regent in the Daughter's of Isabella, and longtime board member of the Brattleboro Drop-in Center. Along with her husband, Betty received the Vermont governor's award for community service. Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, camping, snowmobiling, and all outdoor activities. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family. There was always laughter when Betty was among her sisters, family and friends. She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Becker, two grandchildren, Sara Marie Becker and Albert Joseph Ballard, a sister, Sally Herring, and a brother, James Robinson. Besides her loving husband, she leaves one son, Michael Druke and wife, Mirela, of Half Moon Bay, CA, daughter, Patricia Ballard and husband, Stanton, of Dallas, TX, and son-in-law Charles Becker and wife, Linda, of Schenectady, NY; her adored grandchildren, Adrian Becker and wife Catie, Tiberiu Ana, Travis Ballard, Laurel Druke, Zachary Ballard, Heather Druke, and one great-grandchild, Sara Marybeth Becker. She is also survived by her devoted sisters, Irene Brooks, Mary Laitres and husband, Leo, Polly Casanova, and Louise McGourty and husband, Jack as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of close friends. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:00 am at Saint Michael Roman Catholic Church, 47 Walnut Street, Brattleboro, with Rev Richard O'Donnell, pastor, celebrant . Committal rites and burial will follow in Saint Michael Parish Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at Atamaniuk Funeral Home, on Terrace Street, Thursday evening from 6 – 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty's name may be made to Saint Michael Catholic School c/o Elaine Beam, Principal, 48 Walnut St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
