Elizabeth Gaynelle "Nellie" Stallings, a resident of Annapolis for nearly 55 years died November 5 at home after battling cancer. She was born September 16, 1937 in Beckley, West Virginia and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was a member of The Fleet Reserve Ladies Auxillary in Annapolis and The U.S. Power Squadron . Nellie and her husband of 54 years, Brooks, loved cruising with The Annapolis Yacht Club, The Sailing Club of the Chesapeake, and Cross Roads Yacht Club in Stuart, Florida. She attended Grace Place Community Church of Stuart, Florida and spent their winter months in Hobe Sound, Florida.
Nellie was instrumental in starting GARCI (Greater Arnold Recreation Council Incorported), and participated in various sponsered charity events where she always brought her fun loving spirit, positive energy, and generousity to her community.
Nellie was a loving mother and devoted wife who cherished time with family. Forever nurturing and loving to her children and grandchildren, Nellie had a way of making everyone feel special.
Nellie enjoyed life, entertaining, traveling, sailing, power boating, fishing, and playing cards with family and friends. Always kind, Nellie was loved by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Melvin Brooks Stallings whom she married on February, 22, 1957; and their four daughters Debra Gay Pringle, Cynthia Elizabeth Kowalewski, Susan Brooks Cheatham and Katherine Ellen Galloway, 7 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 8th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at John M. Taylor Funeral Home located at 147 Duke of Gloucester St, Annapolis. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 9th at 12pm. Interment will take place at 2pm at the Hillcrest Cemetary in Annapolis.
