Elizabeth P. “Betty” (Knox) Howard, 69, passed peacefully June 26, 2011 at home in the care of her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves her devoted husband of 47 years Neil J. Howard; one son, Ronald N. and his wife Susan of Sutton; one daughter, Michelle E. Howard of South Grafton; Her mother Joanne (McCarthy) Knox of Worcester; one sister, Patricia K. Cressman of Tewksbury; her grandson Max Howard, her sister in law Gale A. Knox of VA, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her brother James L. Knox passed last year. Mrs. Howard was born January 5, 1942 in Worcester the daughter of the late Leonard Knox and has lived in Grafton since 1968. Betty was a parishioner of St. Philips Church and now St. James Church in South Grafton. She owned and operated Betty’s Busy Needle for many years. She had a passion for quilting for over 30 years having been a member and past president of Schoolhouse Quilters in Shrewsbury. She won awards for quilts she had made and she also made quilts for many breast cancer survivors. Betty cherished her family and was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother along with being a good friend to many. The family suggests you honor and remember her with memorial donations to U Mass Memorial Hospice or St. James Church Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers. Funeral Mass A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Betty Wednesday June 29th at 10:30 am in St. James Church 89 Main Street South Grafton MA 01560. She will then be laid to rest in St. Philips Cemetery in Grafton. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of THE RONEY FUNERAL HOME in North Grafton.
