Ellsworth F. Smith COL USA (Ret.) (age 91)"Smitty" On Monday, November 14, 2011 of Arlington, VA. Member US Army Corps of Engineers (1942-1968), WWII veteran and recipient of the Legion of Merit for meritorious service from 1962-1968 (for his work with the Redstone Arsenal and NASA and as Commander of the 588th Engineer Battalion). Loving father and grandfather is survived by his children Gregory B. Smith, Dawn Smith.Gurganus, Meredith Michelle Donnelly and Richey E. Smith; grandchildren Alison and Caroline Smith, Whitney Gurganus White, Blair Gurganus and Luke Smith. Funeral service at Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel, Arlington, VA on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11 AM with interment following at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association.
