A Christian, at an early age, he was baptized at Prince of Peace Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO where he was a member. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, employee, and friend, and was loved by all who knew him. His special gift of patience, no-judgmental, humblest, and caring personality touched everyone he came in contact with during his life. In 1981, Elmer graduated from Central High School in St. Louis, MO. He graduated with honors and was Valedictorian of his class. Elmer attended West Point Academy and later received his BS in Chemistry with honors of Cum Laude in 1985 at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO. In the summer of 1985, Elmer decided to take an internship with 3M Corporation as a junior chemist with the Consumer Stationary Division some of his responsibilities were commericalation of new products to idea generation and concept development. Elmer was captivated with all his work experience with 3M and returned home and decided medical school wasn't for him. In the fall of 1986, Elmer decided to join forces with 3M and knew if he wanted to be a powerful force at 3M he had to attain his MBA. In 1991 Elmer received his MBA at the University of St. Thomas located in Minneapolis, MN. Elmer was promoted to Senior Product Development Chemist of Consumer Stationary Division and during this time is where the birth of the Scotch® Pop-up Strip dispensers started. Elmer served as the "left side brain-the part that scientist say helps with reasoning and the developmental of logical answers-to invent the tiny Pop-up tape pads." ____3M Today June 1997 Now, in the next 11 years Elmer's career was exploding with 3M he had several promotions to Product Development Specialist to Marketing Supervisor to Sales supervisor to Regional Sales Manager to Business Developmental Manager to Six Sigma Master Black Commercial Care Division and one of his powerful highlighted positions with 3M-Managing Director 3M Sweden overseeing more than 300 employees and responsible for business that sells more than 8, 000 3M products. This is an extremely rare form of cancer; however, Elmer fought to the end. We the family thank God for allowing Elmer, to touch our lives and to have shared the wonderful memories of his life with us. He was not only a true inspiration to his family and friends, but to his entire community. We knew Elmer was something great when at 14 he convinced his little sister, Helen and little brother, Reginald to assist him in his lab award winning experiment with white mice.-yeek!
