Elmer T. Jensen of Liberty, MO, passed away at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Excelsior Springs, MO on December 02, 2010. Elmer was born December 21, 1924 in Hebron, IL, the son of the late Einar and Jennie Jensen. He was raised in Kenosha, WI, and graduated from Bradford High in 1942. Elmer served in the US Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. His WWWII service was honored by his recent trip to Washington, DC on the Veteran's Honor Flight. Elmer was united in marriage to Ruth M. Karls (Pias) on September 29, 1951 in Racine, WI. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2008. He was employed by the US Dept of Labor, Bureau of Apprentice and Training since 1965, starting in the Wisconsin Region and transferring to the Kansas City, MO office in 1978. He retired from the Department of Labor in 1989. Prior to his Government work, he completed his apprenticeships as a steamfitter and master plumber, and worked in the building trades for many years. During that period, he was active in the development and monitoring of the local apprenticeship programs. Elmer enjoyed traveling with family and friends, camping, woodcarving, golfing and swimming. He was a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus and National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Liberty, MO. Elmer is survived by sons, Randy(Conney) Jensen, Kevin Jensen, Mark(Cathy)Jensen, Lance Jensen(Cindy Bell): daughters Marla(Tom) Jensen, Linda(Russ)Tennessen. Grandchildren: Eric and Kirk Jensen, Nick and Brett Jensen, Jill Buchmann, Katie and Ken Tennessen, Jaclyn Berg and Chris Jensen, Heather Hudnall, Jaime and Kristen Jensen and nine great grandchildren. He is further survived by brother Earl Jensen and in laws Gerald (Dee) Pias, Dolly Epping, Janet (Les) Edmark and Karen (Rick) Meyers. Elmer was preceded in death by brother Stanley Jensen and sisters Margaret Jones and Edith Rohan. Remembrances may be made to the Honor Flight Network, American Red Cross, or the Leukemia Society.
