Elsie Mae Woodard, 91, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 25, 2011. She was born on April 22, 1920 in Scotland Neck, NC. She was married to Edgar L. Woodard for 50 years, who preceded her in death in 1988. She was a long-time resident of Norfolk, VA until she went to live in Jacksonville, Florida nine years ago. She was blessed with two sons, Edgar C. Woodard (Nancy) and Andrew L. Woodard (Wanda) who reside in Norfolk, VA; and a daughter, Linda C. Bass (Bobby) of Jacksonville, FL. She has 8 grandchildren, Nancy Charlene Lim, Michael Woodard, Jeffrey Woodard, Mark Woodard, Patrick Bass, Lisa Aimone, Ashley Mae Woodard and Taylor Woodard. There were six great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was one of eight children. Mary Alexander of Scotland Neck, North Carolina is her only remaining sibling. She retired from K & K Toys where she was a store manager in Hilltop – Virginia Beach, VA. She loved to sing and has brought a smile to many faces with her songs, even up to her death. "You are my sunshine" and "Let me call you sweetheart" were two songs she sang on a regular basis. Every time someone saw her, they would say, "There's the lady that sings to us". She will be missed, but her family was blessed to have the honor and privilege to love her for 91 years. "Surely goodness and love will follow me All the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever" (Psalm 23:6) The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. immediately followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make your donations in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
