Elven Samuel Wood, fondly known as Snaf, fulfilled his earthly mission on April 13, 2011. He passed away peacefully at his home. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone who knew him.
He was born in Bicknell, UT to William and Beatrice Wood on January 25, 1932. He lived to be 79 years old. He had eight brothers and sisters.
He married his sweetheart Shirlene Peery on April 26, 1954. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple. They made their home in Payson, Ut. Together they raised a family of three children. They were married 57 wonderful years.
He was a baker all his life, and was known for his wonderful baked goods. He owned his own bakery in Spanish Fork for many years and later retired from BYU. He often delighted in surprising people with an unexpected bag of his baked goodies.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in various callings.
In his later years he spent time at Ticaboo, near Lake Powell, where he was named the honorary mayor. He enjoyed fixing watches, cooking wonderful meals, watching the Utah Jazz and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Shirlene, daughters Kari, Alison (Richard) Gray, and son Glen (Cindy) Wood. He had five grandchildren: Daniel Gray, Lindsey Gray, Bryton Wood, AlyssaWood and JenessaWood. His sister, Colleen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herschel, Peter, Harold and Charles and sisters Alice, Coral and LaPreal.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at the LDS Stake Center on 780 West 500 South in Payson, where friends may call Friday, 6-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p..m. (PLEASE NOTE: both Friday night & Saturday viewings will be at the church.) Interment will be in the Payson City Cemetery.
