Dear Cousins Tony, Anthony Jr. & Familly,
Joe & I were so sorry to hear of Elvira's passing.
I so looked forward to receiving her Christmas cards
with her notes catching us up on your lives in Florida. She was such a special lady, always smiling.
Though it's been many years since we've seen each other, there are many happy memories when you were living in Rochester.

Even though I'll miss our Sunday phone conversations, memories of Aunt Elvira will always be with me. When I was a kid, we would do the dishes together every night after dinner -- at lightning speed if she had a date with Uncle Tony that evening. How we canned for weeks on end with her older sisters, Libby and Anna (my mother) -- the three of them were inseparable. How hard she worked preparing dishes for the huge buffets for

Even though I'll miss our Sunday phone conversations, memories of Aunt Elvira will always be with me. When I was a kid, we would do the dishes together every night after dinner -- at lightning speed if she had a date with Uncle Tony that evening. How we canned for weeks on end with her older sisters, Libby and Anna (my mother) -- the three of them were inseparable. How hard she worked preparing dishes for the huge buffets for her parties and holidays. She remembered everyone with birthday and holiday cards along with handwritten notes, even though her hands hurt from writing. We loved to tease her that she prayed more than the nuns because she was always praying for everyone in her life - for their health and jobs. I'm thankful for her recipes: Italian meatball cookies for Joe; pizzelle for Ron, Jr.; ambrosia & pistachio salads for Ron, Sr. and his very personal favorite, her chicken soup!!! Her memory will forever be a part of us.

All that I am today is because of you and the rest of the Lacagnina's. You were a major part of my life. The family gatherings on Lyceum street. The tons of food:chicken soup and the famous Chocolate cookies. You never missed sending out cards for all occasions and we looked forward to the personal notes inside. Your constant dailey prayers I believe helped evryone in the family for whatever difficulty we may have been experiencing at the time. Enjoy being with all the family that has gone before. You are always in ou hearts and prayers.

My favorite memories of Aunt Elvira are her laugh, her vibrant facial expressions and body language, her posture (so straight, tall, and proud like all the Lacagninas), her obvious and abundant love for her son and husband.... and that counter in her kitchen in Rochester that was COVERED with baked goods "in case anyone should stop by."
The photos here are just beautiful. Look at her as a fiancee and bride! Wow; what a knockout! She was larger than life.

P.S. Here is a reading we had at my mom's funeral. It always touches me when I read it:

A Parable of Immortality

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch until at last she hangs
like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says,
" There she goes! "

Gone where?

Gone from my sight . . . that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of destination.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment
when someone at my side says,
" There she goes! "
there are other eyes watching her coming . . .
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout . . .

We thank you from the depths of our heart for all your never ending prayers for us. You certainly had quite a connection to God. We know you really are still here with us, so we will still speak with you and laugh with you each and every day.
