Emery Wayne Hoewing, 77, of Burlington, died at 7:55 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born February 13, 1934, in Gregory Landing, MO, he was the son of Raymond Wesley and Elsa Louise Ferguson Hoewing. On July 18, 1954, he married Barbara Joyce Suelter in Burlington. Emery worked at Midwest Biscuit/Vista Bakery for 42 years. He retired in 1996. He later worked part-time for Design Homes in Burlington. He was a 1951 graduate of Keokuk High School. He was a member of First Congregational Church. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed golfing, watching sports, fishing with his family, bowling and especially spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Kristina (Dean) Millizer and Candi Lewis, both of Danville, IA; six grandchildren, Kyle and Ryan Millizer, Kayla, Allanah, and Aiden Lewis, and Kinley Doyle; one great-granddaughter, Kaliya Richardson; one brother, Raymond (Reva) Hoewing of Poolsville, MD; several nieces and nephews and brother and sister-in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from noon until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mr. Hoewing will be 10:30 AM Monday, January 16, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Francisco officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the service. As per Emery's wishes, cremation will be accorded following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for First Congregational Church and Great River Hospice.
