Emily Elizabeth Murden Capps, 91, went to be with her Lord at 6:27 a.m. on March 16, 2011. She was the last child and only daughter of Ryland and Margaret Jane (Maggie) Murden. Born and raised in her beloved Princess Anne County, she spent her entire life loving the people and cherishing her memories there. Sharing the history of the county was one of the greatest pleasures of her life. Emily graduated from Creeds High School in 1937, and then married Myron Capps. Her greatest pride and joy were here four children: Helen, Nita, Robert and Gail. She graduated from Leigh Memorial School of Nursing in 1965, and faithfully served the City of Virginia Beach's Health Department for 20 years. She was so proud to have been the first public health LPN for the Health Department. After retiring from nursing, she spent the next 16 years as a volunteer for the Virginia Beach Juvenile District Court, where she was awarded the Liberty Bell of Excellence in 1997. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, three brothers, as well as her daughter, Helen Schartner; and her son, Robert Capps. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Nita and John Brothers, and Gail and Donnie Lee. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, thirteen grandchildren, and a special daughter-in-law, Elaine Capps. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown, followed by the graveside at Charity Church cemetery. A reception will immediately follow in the social hall. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com. Memorial donations may be made to the Senior Resource Center at Creeds or a charity of your choice. Her personal relationship with Jesus was of the utmost importance to her. The theme of her life was "God will take care of me".
