In her younger years she would take care of newborn children and their mothers, living with the family for the first couple of weeks of life during the years following the Depression and often baby sat with several of the families in the Mesquite area. Emma worked for Greyhound in Dallas for a couple of years and when her father had a stroke she came back home to care for him and her mother. Emma went to work for Mesquite ISD In 1948 working In the cafeteria and later was promoted to the position of Manager. Each summer she spent going either North Tx State Univ. or Tx Womens University in Denton, obtaining further education and certification in nutrician. During these years she would cook for the monthly Mesquite Lion's Club meetings which she always enjoyed. She retired from MISD after 28 years of service in 1976. Emma was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mesquite. The property that the church is built on was once part of her Toppel Grandparent's farm. The Mesquite Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest, was also part of her Toppel Grandparent's and two sections of the cemetery are named for them also. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and Pauline Galipp, brothers, Ernest and Herman who died as very young children prior to her birth, and brother Arnold who was her devoted brother until his death earlier this year in February.
