Emma Pembo Cieutat, beloved wife of the late John Dupre Cieutat, Jr., entered into eternal life on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 2:30AM. She was 86 years old. Mrs. Cieutat was born and raised in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Covington and Ponchatoula, LA for the last 26 years. She was the loving mother of Debby Poche and husband Francis, Kerry Cieutat and wife Maria, and Pandy Brylski and husband Ron. She has 10 grandchildren, Nikki Tassani (Scott), Shawn Poche (Vicky), Blaine Poche (Christy), Cody Cieutat (Brandy), Johnny Cieutat (Strader), Kristi Henderson, Beaux Brylski, Brice Brylski and the late Brock Brylski and Holly Poche. She was also the proud grandmother of 14 great grandchildren. Mrs. Cieutat is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julien and Elfrida Pembo, and her brothers, Julien and Ronnie Pembo. She was faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula, LA. Emma Pembo Cieutat was an innovator, leader, and icon in the dance profession. She was the owner and artistic director of Pembo Cieutat School of Dance and her career spanned 60 years, educating thousands of students, many of whom succeeded in professional performing arts careers. Her contributions to dance education in the city of New Orleans was tremendous. She was also the captain of the Krewe of Terpsichore and produced extravagant Pembo Carnival Balls at the New Orleans Municipal Auditorium with Mr. Mardi Gras, Blaine Kern, as it's first monarch. She was a member of the Louisiana Association of Dance Masters and Dance Masters of America. She served as President of Louisiana Dance Masters for two terms and held several other offices on the executive board. She was also a member and Past President of the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Artists. She performed with the USO and the American Theatre Wing War Service at the Stage Door Canteen in New York City during WWII and received special Presidential recognition for the many shows she did to entertain the troops of the United States of America. Mrs. Cieutat had a passion for the art of dance and shared her love and talent with so many. Countless treasured friendships were made throughout her career and the dancing school was the gathering place for many generations. The Pembo Cieutat dancers were one big family. Everyone loved and respected "Miss Emma" and we salute her! She has had her final curtain call, taken her last bow, and the stage lights are dim. God speed to one special lady!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian burial on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 1PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, (5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124). Visitation will begin at 9:30AM. Interment will follow at Hope Mausoleum. If you wish to send charitable donations in lieu of flowers, please send them to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation c/o "Brock's Legacy" at 9457 Brookline Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70809.
Very special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff members of Regency Hospital of Covington and Forest Manor Skilled Rehab of Covington for their kindness and tender loving care.
