Ennis Vines Lilly
Ennis Vines Lilly of Crawley, formerly of Beckley, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at home following a long illness. She was born at Odd, WV on July 3, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Olin and Pearl Vines.
Preceding her in death was her husband of more than 50 years, Cyril Lilly; brothers Connie, Otis, and Jack Vines; sister Betty Mills.
Ennis was a graduate of Stoco High School, an avid reader, quilter and gardener. She worked for many years alongside her husband for Nationwide Insurance. She was known widely for her prize-winning quilts winning many first prizes at the WV State Fair, the Cultural Center, and the Raleigh County Arts and Crafts Fair. She gave away her many quilts to family and friends along with the ribbons she won. She also enjoyed reading and was an expert at solving crossword and crypto quote puzzles.
She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. She attended Grace Baptist Church before moving to Greenbrier County in 2005. She was an active member of the Rupert CEOS and enjoyed exercising and other activities at the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging. She was also an active member of and enjoyed quilting with her Monday night quilt group at Grace Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Ed Lilly and wife Connie of Alexandria, VA; two daughters, Pearl Mize and husband Henry of Washington, WV and Janice Welsh and husband John of Crawley; grandchildren, Ed Lilly, Jr. of VA, Donnie Lilly and Chris Lilly both of FL, Robert Mize of Scott Depot, WV, Ruth Thomson and husband Stuart of Springboro, OH, Catherine Aceto and husband David of Pittsburgh, PA, and Stuart Welsh and wife Beth of Morgantown, WV; great-grandchildren, Mallory Thomson, Alyssa Mize, Lydia and Jonathan Aceto, Emily, Amelia, Adrea, and Evan Welsh. Also surviving is one brother, Jimmy Vines of Elizabethton, TN, and three sisters, Marie Dawson of Baltimore, MD, Glenna Mills of Ellicott City, MD, and Ruby Hunt of Timmonsville, SC, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with John Neel, a long-time personal friend officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bill Welsh, Robert Mize, Stuart Welsh, Ken Turner, Baxter Shrewsbury, and Dale Wooten.
Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 1 -2 PM at the funeral home.
