Erma “Granny” Abernathy, age 81, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday August 17, 2011 at home with family. She was born January 26, 1930 at Pencil Bluff to Eva Leonard.
Erma worked as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 30 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Eugene Abernathy; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Willie Crumpton; two sons, Roger and Randy Abernathy; and one brother, James David Edwards.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Willis Sams of Hot Springs; daughter-in-law, Carol Abernathy of Malvern; nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters-in-law of Texas, William and Vera Edwards, Charles and Hermalee Edwards and Marcus Edwards; two sisters of Hot Springs, Margie and Janice Edwards. She was also survived by three brothers-in-law and spouses, Ted and Katy Abernathy of Oden, Bill and Mary Jo Abernathy of Mena, Everette and Lorene Abernathy of Oden, Marcel Abernathy of Hot Springs; sister-in-law and husband, Eva Jean and Chester Miller of Oden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Gross Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Abernathy officiating. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Lowe Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Crumpton, Chris Abernathy, Daniel Sams, Jonathan Sams, Derek Abernathy, Kevin Abernathy, Nicholas Abernathy and Victor Jones. Honorary pallbearers include Gillie and Jewell Harmon, Bill and Loretta Bacon, Jack, Jewel and Scott Wacaster, Neil Burnette, Dr. John W. Sorrels, Dr. Rajesh Shroff and Jodi Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care, 3955 Central Avenue, Suite 6, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71913.
