Mrs. Qualheim, 94, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ugilt, Denmark on Sept. 1, 1912. Erna joins her husband, Ed who preceded her in death on April 6, 2005, parents, Peter and Martha Louise (nee: Andersen) Christiansen, five sisters and eight brothers. She came to Racine at the age of 13 on Dec. 2, 1925. She was united in marriage to Edward Qualheim on Jan. 16, 1948 in Our Saviors Church.
She attended Beebe School. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Solstreif Mission Society, and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Erna was a diehard Cubs Fan for 75 years. She was a senior bowler for many years, was actively involved with the Racine Dairy Statesmen, loved gardening, and most of all spending time with her family. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by two daughters; Mim (Tom) Baggesen, Vicki Welch, two adopted children; Tom (Susie) Christiansen, Sharon (Tom) Stanford, five grandchildren; Jeff (Cindy) Ohrwall, Jon Ohrwall, Jaime (Randy) Nelson, Shane (Sarah) Schneidewind, Andy Schneidewind, seven great-grandchildren, Brett, Brandi, Brady and Steven Ohrwall, Isabella and Nikolai Nelson, Elijah Schneidewind, many nieces, nephews, three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church 3805 Kinzie Ave on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. with her nephew Rev. Douglas Schoen and Rev. Pam Kerchner officiating. Interment will be private for the family on Monday at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home 1212 Lathrop Ave., on Friday, March 16, 2007 from 5-8p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Qualheim to Zion Lutheran Church Elevator Fund have been suggested.
