Yorktown: Ernest Lee Sowers, age 79, died at his home February 8, 2012 surrounded by his family. Ernie was a Korean War survivor and recipient of the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. He and his family owned and operated Ordinary Appliance and Furniture more than 25 years in Gloucester County before retiring and moving to Yorktown; also, a member of the Abingdon Ruritan Club and Providence Baptist Church.
Ernie, an Illinois native, was preceded in death by his son, Ernie Jr.; Mother, Annis Wax Sowers; Father, Bernard Sowers and his wife, Mabel as well as a sister, Sandra Culver.
Wife of 52 years: Marion
Daughter: Angela Knight and husband Terry
Granddaughter: Taylor Knight
2 Sisters: Annetta Howard and Marsha Roll
2 Brothers: Carl Sowers and Burl Sowers
A canine grandson, Marley
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Funeral services, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Richard Croxton, will be held at the funeral home, Monday, 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow with military honors in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery.
