Ernest Vann Stone, 80, of Chowan County, NC, passed away March 31, 2011, in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born December 7, 1930 in Virginia to the late Ernest and Helen Stone. He retired from the US Air Force after 30+ years of service. He was a member of the Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge #178 AF&AM. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Justine Stone, and is survived by his three sons, Romer Stone and wife Shelley, Douglas Stone and wife Shirley and Gary Stone; his sister, Francis Miller; his brother, Louis Stone; seven grandchildren, April Kountz and husband Shaun, Amanda Stone and fiancé Michael Marriner, Brittni Hemperley and husband Todd, Justin Stone, Joshua Stone, Ashley Stone and Allen Stone; and two great-grandchildren, Kristen Kountz and Aliviah Hemperley. A memorial gathering of Family and Friends will be conducted Sunday at 7 p.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
