Ervin F. Mahuta, age 92, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Prairie Gardens Assisted Living. He was born on December 3, 1919 in Milwaukee. He was the son of Leo and Fanny (Palma) Mahuta. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 740th Railway Battalion where he earned the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with 4 bronze Stars and 4 Overseas Service Bars. He worked 41 years for the C&NW Railroad and retired in 1982. He then worked for the Wisconsin Cheeseman. He enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Michigan hunting, fishing and playing clarinet and accordion.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Ripp of Sun Prairie; 2 sons, Steve (Laurinda) of Sun Prairie, Jon of Madison; a sister, Betty (Richard) Mrozinski of Milwaukee; 3 grandsons, David, Randy (Molly) and Bob Ripp; a great granddaughter, Lucy; 3 step grandchildren, Jenna, Vince, and Maria Speaks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Virginia; a brother Leonard and many friends and relatives.
A visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Entombment will be at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens where military rites will be held.
The family would like to thank Prairie Gardens Assisted Living, Prairie Diner and his friends and neighbors in Royal Oaks who helped so much in taking care of and helping him as he advanced in age. He will be remembered as someone who would always lend a helping hand.
