Ethel Mae Bryant Daniels Hill was born on August 11, 1905 in Greenwood, Florida, the fourth child and daughter of Girdie Milton Bryant and David Bryant. The family moved to Jakin, Georgia sometime after the passing of her father around 1910 where her mother married James (Jim) Manns her stepfather. Ethel grew up in Jakin, Georgia a farming community with her brothers and sisters. She received her education in the local school district of Jakin, Georgia, where she attended Church and received her early religious education. Ethel moved to New Jersey in 1925 at the age of 19. She lived on Bond Street in Elizabeth for 8 years with her first husband, Willie Daniels and to this union two children were born, Eva and James. She later moved to Roselle where she met Claude Hill at work. She married Claude Hill and moved to 381 E. 9th Avenue where she resided until her passing. In 1926, she became a member of New Zion Baptist Church in Elizabeth and remained a faithful member until her health began to fail. Mrs. Hill was the owner of a Sweet Shop on the corner of Spruce Street and East 9th Avenue in Roselle for 2 years before she sold it. She did various types of work during the course of her life. She was a housekeeper for The Daffy Dan Family, she worked in a toy factory and also General Aniline Works, Inc. She retired from work in 1975. Mrs. Ethel Mae Daniels Hill passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey at the age of 106. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Sarah Bryant, Willie Bryant Carter, Carrie Belle, brothers, David Emory Bryant, Brown (Red) Bryant, Ezekiel Bryant, first husband, Willie Daniels, second husband, Claude Hill, a daughter, Eva Edwards and a son, James Daniels, two grandsons, Hasan Ghafur and David Daniels. Ethel leaves to cherish fond memories, one adopted daughter, Barbara Wilson, one adopted son, Lawrence Myers, five grandchildren, Melanie Daniels, Valerie Neal, Seth Daniels (Susan), and Desiree Daniels Reese (Warren). She also had thirteen great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mrs. Hill also had two very special caregivers, Nicole Manboadh and Margorie Moore.
