Eugene Edward Swinsick age 66 of Cheshire CT, formerly of Blossburg PA passed away completely unexpectedly on May 2, 2013 in the West Haven Veterans Hospital. He was born on October 13, 1946 in Blossburg PA. to the late Helen (Tomski) and Leonard Swinsick. He is survived by his beloved daughter Roxanne and her husband Manu Serohi of Durham, brothers Matthew (Dawn) Swinsick of South Carolina, Thomas (Joanne) Swinsick of Florida, and sister Patricia (Thomas) McHale of Rhode Island. He is also survived by his former wife Christine Rossi. He graduated in 1964 from North Penn High School in Blossburg. Upon graduation he entered the US Navy as an ET2 where he did his basic training at Great Lakes and was on a tour of duty in Vietnam. He worked for Southern New England Telephone Company for over 35 years and developed some of his greatest friendships. He retired at age 55 and that was the beginning of Dad's great years. He loved being retired and lived life to the fullest every day. He was always busy doing something or going somewhere. My dad was best known for his amazing personality, his love of people and his love for fishing and hunting. Gene had some of the greatest friends a person could have. He was loved by everyone he knew, there was nothing mean inside him and he would do anything for anyone. He loved everything about being outdoors whether he was in the woods hunting or just walking at night after dinner. What defines Geno are the things he loved: quiet mornings on the lake with a cup of coffee fishing and a long breakfast with Dave Lee, hunting in PA with his childhood friend Sam, meeting the "boys" at Food bag for his 4pm coffee, sitting on his back deck in the morning reading his paper watching the birds, sitting at night in his easy chair where he would always fall asleep, golfing every week with Eastham and the boys, getting hotdogs at Capitol Lunch in New Britain, going to Colorado every year hunting with the "boys", taking such loving care of his lawn, wearing his flip flops in the summer, building works of art in his basement, making his own bullets just because he loved to, having his CB radio in his truck, eating at the Panzella's house, canning his own venison meat and traveling. His most prized possession however was his daughter, his best friend, she meant everything to him and their souls were connected as one. Anyone who saw them together could see and feel their bond. Our family and friends are devastated and in shock by this great loss of such a great man. Friends may call at the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte 80) East Haven, CT FRIDAY from 12:00-3:00 PM. A Service will be held at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Wild Turkey Federation, P O Box 530, Edgefield, SC 29824 or at www.nwtf.org
