Eugene Henry Sanguinetti, of Stockton, CA passed away peacefully at St. Josephs Medical Center on February 3rd, 2012, surrounded by many of his family. Gene was born in Stockton on June 27, 1924, to Henry and Angelina Sanguinetti. Gene attended El Dorado Grammar School and graduated from Stockton High School in 1942 where he played football as a stand-out halfback, becoming known as "Granny" Sanguinetti. Gene briefly attended UC Berkeley before enlisting in the Army in 1942 as an infantryman. Gene developed rheumatic fever while in the service, and was forced to serve out his military years in the administrative corps where he met his wife-to-be Joyce Lorraine Watson, and completed his service as a sergeant at a PW/POW camp in Flagstaff, AZ. Gene was honorably discharged in March of 1946 and returned to Stockton, where he went to work in the Dohrmann Insurance Agency, ultimately opening his own insurance agency in the mid 1950's. Later, he became the managing partner of E.D. Willkinson Insurance Agency. Gene remained active in the insurance business until his death. Gene and Joyce also co-operated Treat's Soda Fountain on Yosemite street for a few years where Gene was able to sell insurance over the counter while flipping burgers. Amazingly, he still insured one of those clients when he passed. Gene and his younger brother Bob were partners in many investments and an apple farm for much of his life. Gene was preceded in death by his daughter Janice, wife Joyce and brother Jim. Gene is survived by his brother Robert, sons Eugene and Bruce, grandsons Greg and Matthew, granddaughters Amy and Torreyana, great grandkids Janis, Kevin and Dominic. Gene was a giving, loving, hard working man, animal lover with a wonderful sense of humor. Gene will be deeply, deeply missed. The family wants to express their deep and sincere gratitude to Gene's neighbors Annette and Grady Holcomb, and Gene's friend Marcel Dulac, for the help, care and kindness shown to Gene.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, CA, followed by a drop-in celebration-of-life from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Gene's home at 1114 Seward Way, Stockton. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be sent to Cystic Fibrosis Research Association (cff.org), Shriners (donate2shc.org), or Delta Humane Society (deltahumanesociety.com).
