DOUGLAS: Eugene J. “Gene” Morin died June 8, 2011 at U Mass Memorial Healthcare Memorial Campus after a short illness. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years Susan (Wentzell) Morin, his three children Eric, Jean and Denise, two grandchildren Alex and Brittany who reside in California. He also leaves his loving niece Jill, nephew Brett and his wife Wheatley, his brother in laws and sister in laws Fred and Donna and John and Sandy and his 97 year old mother in law Kay Wentzell. Gene was born February 9, 1931 in Worcester, raised in South Grafton the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Pastner) Morin. He worked many years as a teacher and administrator in The Grafton School system. Gene then became Academic Administrator of Assabet Valley VHS in Marlborough developing and hiring all in the Academic area. He also was Assistant Superintendent and was involved with the school during its inception. Gene not only was an educator but also an accomplished jazz musician playing on the road on the east coast and in The US Army Band while serving during The Korean War. Among his many hobbies Gene loved skiing, golf, cooking and tennis having been a longtime member of The Grafton Tennis Club. In the last few years he particularly enjoyed playing mixed doubles tennis with his wife and golf with his longtime friends. He also enjoyed planting and harvesting his garden and sharing his bounty with his many dear friends, Gene also took great pride in cooking and entertaining for his family and friends. He was delighted in February when a surprise 80th birthday party was given honoring him. Gene was a man of simple needs whose greatest pleasure was found enjoying his days with his wife Susan and their dog “Zoe” at their home on the lake. Gene also served Douglas as a member of its Finance Committee and delivering Meals on Wheels to those in need. The family suggests in lieu of flowers you honor Gene with donations in his memory to NEADS Assistance Dog Program for The Deaf and Physically Disabled @ PO Box 213 W. Boylston MA 01583 (www.NEADS.org) or a cancer research organization of the donor’s choice. SERVICES All are invited to a Celebration of Life honoring Gene Monday June 20th at Highfields Golf & Country Club on Magill Drive in Grafton from 2 to 6 pm.
