Eugene L. Ferguson, 81, of Weirton died Sunday July 17, 2011, at the UPMC Montefiore Hopsptal in Pittsburgh, PA. Born on April 24, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, Gene was the son of the late Carl Joseph and Marie Lewis Ferguson. A flight instructor with the US Air Force from 1948 until 1952, Gene trained pilots on the Norden bombsite. After the service, Gene returned home and joined his father in the recently founded family business. He owned and operated Ferguson Tire Service in Weirton for over fifty years, eventually turning the day to day operations over to his son, Gene. A, family oriented man, Gene had a passion for cars, and building model airplanes. He loved to golf, and enjoyed fishing with his son. He was a member the Williams Country Club, AF & AM Lodge 171, the Osiris Shrine, Wheeling, a P.E.R. with the BPOE 1801, and a member of the American Legion Post 10. Gene is survived by his wife, Linda Paul Ferguson; his son, Gene (Terri) Ferguson of Weirton; his two daughters, Carla (Rick) Snyder of Hudson, OH, and Leslie (Mark) Tatum of Dallas, TX; his sister, Carol (John) Skerbetz, and their children of New Cumberland, WV; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Corey (Lyndsey) Snyder, Lauren, Garth, and Garrett Martin, Taylor Tatum, Lexi and Wesley Ferguson; and expecting one great grandchild in February of 2012. Visitation will be Wednesday 4-8 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday. Rev. Kevin Bowers will preside. Interment will follow at the Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence. PA Memorial contributions may be made to the Weirton Salvation Army PO Box 2499 Weirton, WV 26062
