Eugenia Secundina "Jean" Echandi passed peacefully in her sleep at her O'Connor Woods community, joining her husband Tomas, son Johnny, grandson Mark, her parents, all five of her siblings, and many cherished family and friends in Heaven. She is remembered fondly for her always present smile and positive attitude. Eugenia was born in Mutriku, Spain in the Basque province of Guipuzcoa. At age 19, she moved to America with her sister's family and soon married Tomas Echandi, a Basque farmer/sheep and cattle rancher. They worked hard together to build a happy and good life for themselves and their children, always finding joy in the simple things in life. Eugenia was never idle, lovingly caring for her family and helping with the ranch. Throughout her life Eugenia enjoyed annual family reunions in Lake Tahoe, a few trips back to her home country, and more recently, looked forward to day trips to Jackson Rancheria. She was active in San Joaquin/Stanislaus Cattlewomen and O'Connor Woods Knit Wits and Little Bo Peep club. Eugenia will live on forever because she has inspired her family to follow her example in so many positive ways. She is survived by her four treasured children: Rose Mondragon (Fred), Grace Corry (Fred), Pati Wooster (Steve), and Jim Echandi (Lisa) and will be tremendously missed by her 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, great-great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
