Eula C. Asay

Pickens – Eula Chappell Asay, formerly of Trotter Road, Pickens, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011.

Mrs. Asay was born on April 21, 1921 to the late Owen Chappell and Beatrice Morgan Chappell in Pickens County, SC. Mrs. Asay graduated from Pickens High School and Draughn's Business College in Greenville, SC. She lived in Greenville for many years where she was employed by Myers Arnold Department Store and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of SC. She was transferred to Columbia with Blue Cross in 1957 and eventually retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of SC in Columbia. She was a member of Lakemont Colony in Cleveland, SC for over 55 years and was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Pickens.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Asay was preceded in death by her husband, H.P. Asay, Jr; two brothers, Roy E. Chappell, Sr. and Ralph H. Chappell; one sister, Lola Chappell Harmon; and a grandson, Michael P. McGahee.

Mrs. Asay is survived by one son, Arlie Gene Asay and his wife Christine of Pickens, SC, two daughters Wynell A. Brown and her husband Deane of Aiken, SC and Beatrice A. Mitchell and her husband Jerry of Ocala, FL; four grandchildren, Charles W. McGahee, Jr. of Greenville, SC; Arlina A. Moore and her husband Keith of Culowhee, NC; Dr. Jerry Mitchell, Jr. and his wife Susan of Columbus, OH; and Amanda M. Longshore and her husband Jeremy of Mandeville, LA. In addition, Mrs. Asay is survived by two step grandchildren, Christy Brown and Marty Brown of Winston-Salem, NC; nine great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Dillard Funeral Home, Pickens, SC on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 12:30 to 2 PM with funeral services immediately following at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Travelers Rest, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672.
