Eva A. Shahan, 104, passed peacefully to the arms of the Lord, with her beloved grandson, Jim, and her friend in Christ, Sister Anna, by her side. Born November 20, 1908 to the late William and Marietta Saltsman, Eva remained an Owensboro native most of her life. Most recently residing at the Roosevelt House since 2003, where she lived independently until March of this year. Eva was a lifelong homemaker who devoted her life to taking care of her family, keeping an impeccable home and tending to her roses. She was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of Parish of the Immaculate and the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed reading, gardening and needlepoint. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Shahan; her son, James R. Shahan and her daughter, Barbara S. Verruto. She is survived by four grandchildren, James Shahan (Marie Vowels) of Owensboro, Lynn Verruto-Martin, Deidre Struffolino and Richard Verruto, Jr. all of Schenectady, NY; five great grandchildren, Ross Martin of Indianapolis, IN and Erika Martin, Kara, Kayla and Vincent Struffolino all of Rotterdam, NY; one great-great grandchild, Zachary, who was born on her 101st birthday; a sister, Rose L. Johnson of Barberton, OH; and a son-in-law, Richard Verruto. Eva's family would like to thank the staff and residents of Roosevelt House and the staff of Kindred Transitional Care-Hillcrest for the care and kindness shown to Eva. Services are 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Parish of the Immaculate in Owensboro. Burial is in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00-9:30 a.m. on Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro, where prayers will be said at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Parish of the Immaculate, 2516 Christie Place, Owensboro, KY 42301.
