Evelyn Ameera Nies was born to Rev. Jared and Sarah Nies of Gregory, SD on May 25, 2012 at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls. She was the couple's first daughter and granddaughter on both sides of the family. She arrived at 5:34 pm and was washed in the waters of Holy Baptism by her daddy after she was stabilized. Evelyn was born very ill and taken to the NICU. Evelyn was held by her parents for the last few hours of her life and passed away peacefully in her mother's arms Sunday morning, May 27. The promises of God's forgiveness and salvation in the baptism in which Evelyn now sleeps will one day be fully revealed at the coming of Christ. In the promises of Christ and the power of the cross and the empty tomb the family is comforted and rests.

Evelyn is deeply loved and missed by her parents Jared and Sarah Nies and her big brother Timothy of Gregory; her grandparents, Walter and Kathleen Hintz of Dearborn, MI; and Lester and Kristen Nies of Spearfish, SD; great grandparents Jean Hintz of Dearborn, MI; and Darrel and Phyllis Erickson of Rapid City, SD; aunts and uncles Amy and Brian Peck of Indianapolis, IN; Mindy Hintz of Dearborn, MI; Eric and Michelle Nies and their son Elijah of Belle Fourche, SD; and Jason Nies of Spearfish, SD.

Psalm 139:13-18

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God:
How vast is the sum of them!

If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
I awake, and I am still with you.
