Evelyn C. Dickinson passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2009 with her son and care givers present. She was born in Galveston, Tx. of immigrant parents, Paul and Anna Calligary, from Romania and present day Czech Republic. After living in Ohio and Kentucky in her early years, her family moved to New York City where she attended high school and received a full scholarship to NYU's School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance. She graduated with a BA degree in 1932 and found employment with magazine publisher Time, Inc. She worked in accounting for various magazines such as Time, Life, and a fledgling Architectural Forum. Evelyn was married to Richard T. Dickinson in 1943 and moved to Morristown shortly thereafter where she continued her career in accounting by being bookkeeper and secretary for her husband's business, Dickinson Monumental Works in Morristown, until they retired in the 1980's. She attended St. Margaret's Church in Morristown and was active in the Morris Township Senior Citizens group. She enjoyed playing bridge and did so a few times a week with the Morristown and Township seniors. She was fiercely independent, enjoyed everyone's company, cared about them and brightened a room with her infectious smile and laughter. She is survived by her son, Richard T. Dickinson, Jr., a niece, three nephews and several cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Margaret's Church Organ Rebuilding Fund, 6 Sussex Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07960 or the Morris Minutemen Ambulance Squad, 97 Mill Road, Morris Plains, NJ 07950.
