Evelyn Mae Lang, 76, Tappen, ND, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck, after a long decline in health due to diabetes. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM at United Methodist Church in Tappen. Burial will be at the Fisher Cemetery in Tappen. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 - 8:00 PM at Eastgate Steele Chapel where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn Mae Krieger was born the second child and second daughter on December 20, 1934, to Gottlieb and Lizzie (Dorr) Krieger. She attended rural schools near Fredonia, ND, and Dawson, ND, and completed her education in Tappen. On April 20, 1952, she married Leonard James Lang at her parent's home in the rear of Krieger's General Store. They bought the Lang family farm west of Tappen where they milked dairy cows until 1972 and raised cattle and small grains. Evelyn also raised chickens and milked a few extra cows for many years, which allowed her to have her cream and egg customers of a regular route. She also had several large gardens which provided vegetables for the family and also enough to share with others. While her children were growing up, Evelyn served as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher at the United Methodist Church and was a long time leader of the Tappen Merry Maids and Jolly Gents 4-H Club. She taught herself how to sew and quilt and gave a polyester star quilt to each niece and nephew as they graduated from high school. Evelyn enjoyed reading when she found the time and taking photos at family events. She will be remembered for her quick sense of humor, her strong Christian faith, her ability to make everyone feel welcome, and her love of family. Evelyn leaves her children, RhondaLyn (David) Wyum of West Fargo, ND, Kerwin Lang of Tappen, ND, and Gayla (Clyde) Heinle of Flasher, ND; and her granddaughters, Melinda Wyum (Johnathan Thomas) of Fargo, ND, Caroline Wyum of West Fargo, ND, Cadee Heinle and Darbee Heinle, both of Flasher, ND. Also surviving are her siblings, Adeline Kalmback, Bernice Clauson, Sandy Schumacher, Janice Hofmann, and Dale Krieger. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard (July 1, 2001); her brother, Jimmy; two nephews; and one niece.
