Evelyn (Everlean) Shegog was born in Polk, Mississippi, February 26, 1921, to Patsy Ford and Nathaniel Doyle. She was one of sixteen siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olen Shegog. To this union, nine children were born. Evelyn, was the loving, caring matriarch of the family. She provided selfless support for her entire family, and was a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen for anyone that needed help. Evelyn was faithful to God's plan for her life. She was a devoted member of Good News Baptist Church, attending until her health failed her. Evelyn was the strong glue that held everything and everyone together. Her wisdom was beyond her years and a blessing to all that knew her. Just talking with her made everything seem better. Mama you will be solely missed, yet never forgotten – loving you always and forever. On January 24, 2012, God called "Ever", (as she was called) home to share His Kingdom. She leaves to cherish her memory: nine children, Shirley Bills (James, deceased), Bobbie Day, Odell Doyle, Ruby Day (Judge, deceased), Linda Brown (James), Percy Shegog (Carmella), Delores Saddler (Ronald, deceased), Donna Strong (Lamont), and Deborah Whittington (David); fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
