Florence Marie Lieffort, age 86, Milbank SD died Friday August 31, 2012 at Milbank Area Hospital. Florence had resided at St William Home in Milbank since November of 2006. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Gary DeRouchey will officiate. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Florence's family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. A scripture and rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Music will be provided by the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir. The urn bearers will be Florence's grandchildren. The lector will be Andy Lieffort and the Eucharistic Minister will be Leon Schliesman. Florence was born to Thomas and Florence (Billiet) Toner on March 31, 1926, at Graceville, Minnesota. She grew up in Ortonville, Minnesota. Florence was united in marriage with James Lieffort on November 18, 1944. They lived most of their life in Milbank. Florence and Jim were parents to 12 children and were lifelong members of St Lawrence Catholic Parish. Florence was not only mother to her family, but also took much pride and pleasure in her roll of sacristan at St Lawrence Church. She trained many, many altar boys and girls and loved making new faith settings through her crafts. Florence relinquished that position only after her health would no longer allow her to do those duties in the manor she thought necessary. Florence is survived by eleven of her twelve children. They are in birth order: Jeanne (Larry) Wobbema, New Rockford, ND; Jack (Shirley) Lieffort, Savannah, Ill; Albert Lieffort, Alexandria, MN; Julie Lieffort, Coon Rapids, MN; Peter Lieffort, Milbank, SD; Teresa ( Andre) Avant, Banning, CA; Thomas (Jolene) Lieffort, Watertown, SD; Liz ( Steve) Hilbrands, Milbank, SD; Bob ( Kris) Lieffort, Brookings SD; Sarah (Mick) Pickens, St Cloud, MN; and Andrew ( Jesse) Lieffort, Star Prairie, WI. Florence was gifted with 34 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Florence is also survived by three sisters: Judy Gray, Phyllis Dandrea, and Katie Hanson; three brothers: Kenneth Toner, Dennis Toner and Dick Toner; seven sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law as well as many, many nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her husband James; her son Jimmy Alan; her daughter-in-law Beth Lieffort; 2 grandchildren; her parents and her parents-in-law; two sisters; three brothers; three sisters-in-law; and six brothers-in-law.
