Mr. Florentino Cuison Valdez, age 87, died at Villa Monte Vista in Poway, California, December 25, 2011 of natural causes.

Born August 18, 1924 in Malasique, Pangasinan, Philippines, Florentino lived in Dagupan City where he worked as a mechanic. Later, he served in the Philippine army, and fought as a guerilla in the reclaiming of the Philippines during World War II. He returned to his life as a mechanic, notably leading his fellow workers in a record-setting 10 year successful labor strike at the Pantranco Bus Company. It was during the strike that Florentino began his work in the church, beginning with attending Bible school under the mentorship of the missionary Reverend Vicente Resultay, and eventually becoming the Assistant Pastor at the Dagupan Baptist Church. Working with the Southern Baptist Convention, he planted the seeds of faith by helping to start many churches throughout Pangasinan. Florentino immigrated to the United States in 1982 where he lived with his family in San Diego. Florentino worked as mechanic while living out his life's passion of spreading the gospel through his work with the Southern Baptist Convention's Home Mission Board in setting up Filipino missions and Bible study groups until his retirement.

Florentino is survived by his sisters Carmen and Imelda. Children and Spouses; Drusilla, David, Eufemia, Evangeline, Manuel, Joel, Jóna, Julian, Kibba, Leonardo, Lisa, Manuel, Mario, Nelia, Raul, Ricardo, Rosario, Sarah Veronica and Teresita. Grandchildren; Aida, Andri, Andrey, Björn, Brianna, Christa, Christopher, Eureka, Ervin, Helen, Hildonn, Jairus, Jamie, Janice, Jefferson, Jerome, Jonathan, Joshua, Jude, Marla Grace, Mervin, Nicole, Samantha, Shasha, Stephen Mark, and Vanessa. Great-Grandchildren; Audrey Rose, Eara Gabriella, Erin Yzabelle Mannuel Andrey, Markus Pio, and Marla Andreyana.

The family of Florentino wishes to express our sincere thanks for all of the prayers, support and other expressions of love during our time of bereavement. While our family grieves his passing, we know Tatay Florentino is reunited his wife Nanay Jovita and daughter Aida. He is now seated with our Savior, awaiting all of us to join him at the table of paradise. Tatay Florentino is not gone, but has just gone to his new home. To live eternally in heaven and in the home that exists in our hearts.
