Fran George made her final graceful exit on Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Her five-year fight with cancer completed, she leaves a grand legacy of unconditional love for those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Fran was born on December 24, 1928, in Artesia, NM, to William A. Smart and Armandene Hooper Smart. She is survived by her adoring husband of 42 years, Weldon George, and her daughters: Pam Campbell (partner, Martha) of Houston, TX; Pat Campbell Greenwood (husband, Chuck) of Woodbridge, VA; Jan George Siegfried (husband, Ron) of Easton, PA; and Sylvia George Zinn (husband, Tom) of Kansas City, KS. Fran is also survived by the grandchildren who loved their “Franny” and will miss her dearly: John Eric Greenwood, Ryan Greenwood, Jeremy Siegfried (wife, Samantha), Khari Siegfried, Tracy Zinn Schulte (husband, Todd), and Shari Zinn Covell (husband, Bob). Great-grandchildren who benefitted from her loving heart include Cooper Greenwood, Phoebe and Eden Schulte, Lucy, Ellie, and Annabelle Covell, and Lileighana Siegfried.

Fran graduated from Levelland High School at the age of 16 and attended Mary Hardin Baylor on a One-Act Play Scholarship. She transferred to Texas Tech to further her education. Later Fran worked as an executive secretary and as a full-time mom and wife for many years. She loved to travel, to read, to wonder about the world, and to visit her girls. She will be truly missed by friends, family, and neighbors.

A celebration of Fran’s life will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010, at 1:00 pm, at Second Baptist Church, 6109 Chicago Avenue, Lubbock, TX, 79424.

Tributes to Fran may be expressed through donations to the Salvation Army.
