Frances Ehlers-Stone, age 98, died peacefully Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at her Lynden Manor residence. She was born July 2, 1914 in Wilmington, Vermont, the only child of Frank and Clara (Eaton) Allen. Her parents traveled cross country and settled in the Seattle area where childhood memories were made playing with friends on the streets in front of Smith Tower. She married William "Bill" Ehlers Sept. 24, 1934 in Mt. Vernon. They eventually settled in Whatcom County on the Halverstick Rd. where they dairy farmed and berry farmed strawberries and raspberries. In 1968 they were selected and honored as Whatcom County Dairy Family of the Year. Frances, a socialite at heart, loved any opportunity to visit with family or friends; go shopping; do errands away from the farm; and she was an active member of the Eastern Star, Nooksack Chapter #17 for over 50 years. Her husband Bill died in 1978 and Frances later married Macrae "Mac" Stone. Mac and Frances enjoyed traveling to Asia and throughout the US; and especially enjoyed the country atmosphere of Nashville, TN and Branson, MO. Later in life, she enjoyed entertainment at casinos with friends and playing her $20 limit. Preceded in death by her parents; husbands Bill and Mac; grandchildren Anthony "Tony" Ehlers and Jackie Leanne Ehlers; daughter-in-law Mary Ehlers and step-daughter Sarah Johnston; Frances is survived by sons David Ehlers and Darryl (Louise) Ehlers; grandchildren Mike Ehlers, Colleen Ehlers (Bob) Sutliff, Julianne Ehlers Bourassa, Tim Ehlers, Dustin Lyman, Michelle (Judson) Morse and Adam (Sarah) Cardon; step-grandchildren Scott, Pete, Julie and Jenny; numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2:00 pm at Gillies Funeral Home Chapel, 202 Front St. in Lynden. Memorials are suggested to a charity of your choice.
