Brattleboro- Frances Helen, "Fran" Cooke, 88, of Garden Apartments on Putney Road, formerly of Bonnyvale Road died Monday morning, May 16, 2011 at Pine Heights Nursing Home. Mrs. Cooke was born in Brattleboro on February 19, 1923 the daughter of Ray and Marion (Grant) Tudor. She was raised and educated in town and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School, Class of 1941. She had worked at Eden Park Nursing Home as a nurse's aide retiring in 1985. Mrs. Cooke also had been employed at the American Stratford, Maple Farms Dairy, H. Margolin Pocketbook Shop and Dunham Shoe Company all formerly of Brattleboro. Previously she had been employed at the former American Optical Company, former Minshall-Estey Organ Company and for Bradley Labs. Mrs. Cooke was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro where she served on numerous church committees that included the activities and social committee which she chaired for several years. For over 20 years she was a member of the Brattleboro Senior Singers. She was first married to Francis G. Sanborn who predeceased her in 1977. She later married Raymond Cooke in 1980. Her second husband died in 1993. Survivors include one son, Dainard Nelson Sanborn, Sr. and wife Mary of Charlestown, N.H., a daughter-in-law, Barbara Frazier and husband Mark of Easthampton, MA, two step-sons, Richard Cooke and wife Diane of Brattleboro and David Cooke and wife Paulette of Leesburg, FL, one sister, Phyllis Kimble and husband Elliot of East Dummerston and one brother, Robert Tudor and wife Julie of Kalispell, MT. Additionally she leaves five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son Randall Sanborn who died in 2003. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church, Main Street, Brattleboro with Pastor Suzanne Andrews, officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Ridge Cemetery on Black Mountain Road. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Cooke's name may be made to Baptist Church Homeless Shelter, First Baptist Church, 190 Main Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301 or to Brattleboro Area Hospice, 191 Canal Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
