Frances Pavick Lee • July 22 1916 - July 9 2011 Frances, born in Bend, third of four children of Yugoslavian immigrants Steve and Helen Pavick, died at age 94 in her home in Portland, 13 days before her 95th birthday. Her father was a road engineer for Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Co. Frances, knowing little English entering Central School, graduated from Bend High School in 1934. She coached brothers John and Pete to earn appointments to the United States Military Academy, West Point. She attended Behnke-Walker Business College in Portland, becoming proficient with comptometers, then worked for Ballou and Wright Co. In 1939, when older brother John graduated from West Point, she went by train to be his escort. President Franklin D Roosevelt was the commencement speaker. On Sept 2 1939, Frances married Edwin Philip Lee whom she had met at Ballou and Wright. They moved to Klamath Falls for Philip to manage the Ballou and Wright branch. Philip and Frances raised four children there, she being secretary to Mayor Paul Landry, later secretary to architect Howard Perrin and active in the community. The Lees returned to Portland in 1958 for Philip to manage Automotive Electric Distributors, she worked as a secretary and was active in Community Concerts, Willamette Writers and St Clare Catholic Church. In 1968 they sponsored her Yugoslavian cousin and family for U.S. citizenship. In 1969 she started her own business, Westside Rentals, was active in American and Oregon Rental Associations, then sold it to retire in 1979. Blazers fans, they held season tickets from 1976. Philip died Aug 2 1989, one month before their 50th wedding anniversary. Their four children survive them: Penelope Lee Dudley of San Rafael CA; Stephanie Lee Selser of Beaverton; Andrea Lee Arlington of Eugene; Edwin Philip Lee Jr of Cambria CA; plus five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. They remember Frances especially for her flair for the dramatic and for her sense of humor. No flowers, please, remembrances in her name instead to St Clare Catholic Church or Oregon Public Broadcasting. Rosary at St Clare Catholic Church on July 14 at 9:00am, Mass at 10:00am, Reception to follow. Burial on July 15 at Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend.
