In a few words ‘’Inspirational’’ and ‘’Never Forgotten’’ I feel that I can speak for so many of the hundreds of people that your mother’s life has touched.
It was 46 years ago that I had the opportunity to be in your Mom’s class. We were the first bus kids dropped off at 6:45, time to kill and get in trouble before school. Your Mom in her tireless way, soon after, would pull up to that first stall to get out of her car and questionably shake her head as to ask what we were doing there this early. Though at this time she was not our teacher we would run too help her with her large book bag and boxes of graded papers from the weekends work, she always greeted us with a sincere smile and hello. Your Mom, as any teacher can attest, had the toughest age of kids, hormonal girls, rebellious boys, your Mom was the only one in the school who understood us. To put a date on it the year was 1965 when we found out Mrs. Wise was going to be our 7th grade teacher, it was like we won the lottery (joyous to say the least). Your mother had the ‘’Gift’’, and ability to reach in and motivate students like no other teacher. The mathematical equation sign was taught not a math tool but as a tool for our lives to remain balanced… in all aspects of it. She understood the need for fairness, teaching us the components of debate, though she neglected telling us that these do not function well in arguing with wives, they made us aware of two sides to every arguments. Current events at the time involved a ground swell of anti war protest, this was a tough issue with a mom who son was in the Nam, her heart obviously conscious of the ultimate cost of freedom, She carried on. She knew and taught by example that God’s greatest commandment given was ‘’to love one another’’ In our battles we always felt that she was on our side,
You her children made her proud, Mary the scholar, Jim the athlete, John the warrior, it is with the wisdom of age we realize what the cost of being a teacher, the weekends grading papers, student conferences and after school events. All these task taking the precious time from being with your loved ones, your sharing
of your mom with us, forever changed our lives… for that we give you our sincerest gratitude.
Thank You So Much
