Francis “Mike” Flint of Cadillac passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009 at his home. He was 86. Mike was born August 15, 1922 in Osceola County to Thomas and Alice (Rogren) Flint. He grew up in Sherman Township, attended the County Line School and graduated from Tustin High School in 1941. Mike served in the U. S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He fought in the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaigns and was awarded a Purple Heart. After his military service, Mike took Arlene Olson to be his wife on December 7, 1947 in Harrietta. He started working with his father, drilling water wells. Mike took over his father’s business (Thomas Flint and Son Well Drilling) several years later. He worked the business with his own son, Michael, until his retirement. Mike loved his well drilling job but in his leisure time he liked to play with his grandchildren, travel to Alaska to visit family, cut wood, and ride his lawn mower. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and was also a member of the First Covenant Church in Cadillac. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Arlene; children, Michael (Connie) Flint of Manton, Delores (Dan) Peterson of Cadillac, Beverly (Pat) Caudill of Eagle River, Alaska, Diane (Karl) Reuther of Silver Lake, Ohio, and Linda (Keith) Sawade of Cedar Springs, MI; siblings, Helen Vivian, Beatrice Cramer, Richard Flint and George Flint; twelve grandchildren and 6 great–grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Flint and in–laws, Walter and Goldie Olson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 3rd at the First Covenant Church in Cadillac. Pastor Jerry Lange will officiate. Visitation will be from 2–4 and 6–8 p.m., Sunday at the Hitesman–Holdship Funeral Home in Cadillac. Interment will be in the Hobart Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed in Mike’s honor to the First Covenant Church, the American Cancer Society or to Mercy Hospice.
