Francis Toolan Gargan, "Frank", 78, a resident of Centreville for two years and previously of Annapolis and Grasonville, died August 28 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of respiratory failure after a two-week illness.
He was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, and attended Scranton Preparatory School in Scranton, PA as well as St. Joseph College in Philadelphia, PA. He was employed as a Manufacturer's Representative in the furniture industry for over 45 years. Frank served as a Military Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, and was also a Cryptology Specialist. He was a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club and St. Mary's Church in Annapolis, and a 23-year friend of Bill W.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Ross Gargan of Centreville, whom he married Nov. 9, 1957; two daughters, Elizabeth Crow and husband Randy of Darnestown, and Sherry Smith and husband Jonathan of Centreville; brother, John P. Gargan of Dallas, TX; sister, Mary Gargan McKinney of Nashville, TN; six grandchildren, Christine Crow, Shaun Crow, Kelley Crow, Scott Crow, Jake Smith and Ross Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be said at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 3 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be made to either Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601.
