Francis Hebert

Obituary for Francis Hebert

March 6, 1940 - October 25, 2016
Shrewsbury, Massachusetts | Age 76

Frannie Hebert was the kind of guy you couldn't help but to like…in fact love! With no frills or heirs he was a down to earth, genuinely loyal and an overall great guy with a contagious sense of humor. The people in the many communities whose lives he touched are richer because of him. His needs were few and blessings many.

An avid outdoorsman perhaps it's appropriate that he leave the world in the most colorful season of all and when hunting season begins for many a hunter. With his family by his side Frannie died peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. He was 76.

Born March 6, 1940 in Worcester Francis A. Hebert was a son of the late Arthur F. and Gracia N. (Fortier) Hebert. Raised and educated in Worcester he was a graduate of Holy Name High School with the class of 1959. He honorably served his country in the United States Airforce. He married Joyce B. Benoit on June 16, 1962 in Holy Rosary Church in Spencer. Home for the Hebert's was on Sewall Street since 1963 where they lived on Newton Pond. A simple red cape was home and he tended to its every corner religiously. The Hebert's home was always a welcome place to many family and friends and the center of their lives.

He graduated Worcester Boys Trade and began work for Patten's Plumbing for over 25 years. Upon retirement he was manager and familiar face Richard's Car Wash & Auto Body for over 20 years.

Frannie was the go to guy for Fr. Tougas and now Fr. Manny at St. Mary of the Hills Parish in Boylston. He went about his tasks quietly and without question. He and Joyce were active members of their much loved church and it was their second home. His rich faith throughout his life assured him of many things of which he now experiences including being reunited with his late son, Michael A. Hebert.

At age 17 he obtained his pilot's license and solo piloted a Cessna 140. Perhaps Frannie was happiest when in a flannel shirt, waiters on and a fishing pole in hand. While it was recreation he also enjoyed it thoroughly and was able to fish locally but experience the waters in Canada, Alaska, Costa Rica and California. A member of the North Worcester Fox and Coon Club he was also an avid deer hunter. The oasis he created at home provided almost a natural Audubon for all the birds to come and feed and live. Frannie's name is synonymous with nature. It is from the earth we come and now the earth to which we return him. He will be so very much missed.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Joyce, he leaves their sons, Scott F. Hebert and his wife, Lisa of Holden, Brian P. Hebert and his wife, Wendy of Shrewsbury and Todd G. Hebert and his wife, Sherri of Holden; he was the much loved Pépère to Beth, Alexandra, Thomas, Nicholas, Lindsey and Jacob; his great-grandchildren, Gunnar and Gemma; his sisters, Elaine Santi of San Diego and Janice Lee and her husband, Lee of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Frannie's life by gathering for calling hours in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross Street, Boylston on Friday, October 28th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday 9:30 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

Memorials in his name may be made to St. Mary of the Hills Parish, 630 Cross Street, Boylston, MA 01505.
