Francis Joseph “Frank” Battersby – age 86 years of Hawthorne on Wednesday August 10, 2011. Beloved husband of Bernice “Bunny” (nee: Outslay) Battersby, loving father of Francis J. Battersby and his wife Mary Ann of Ringwood and Debra B. Van Orden and her husband James H. of Ringwood, dear grandfather of James Van Orden and his wife Melinda Di Stefano, Jonathan Van Orden and his wife Marisa, Francis J. Battersby, Andrew Van Orden and his wife Kara, Emily Battersby, Kathryn Van Orden, Thomas Battersby and Douglas Battersby, dearest great grandfather of Maxwell Van Orden. Born in Passaic Francis was raised in Elmwood Park until moving to Hawthorne in 1951. He was the shop steward for Garden State Farms for 35 years. Subsequently, Mr. Battersby was an mechanic and assembler for Precision Screen, Hawthorne. Later, he worked as a courier for the Atlantic Stewardship Bank. Francis was a Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Battersby was a member of St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, Hawthorne where he was an usher for 35 years. Francis was also a member of the Antietam Association. Funeral service will be 9:30 AM on Saturday at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at the Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday between 2-4 & 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, 271 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, NJ 07506. (browningforshay.com)
