Frank Douglass Dickson August 1, 1928 - September 18, 2011 Frank Douglass Dickson of Waco passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 22, at Woodway First United Methodist Church with Dr. Milton Cunningham and Reverend Sam Longbottom officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Frank was born August 1, 1928, in San Angelo, Texas, to Douglass and Eunice Dickson. He graduated from Dawson High School where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated from Baylor University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. While at Baylor he formed friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Following graduation he accepted a coaching and teaching position at Prairie Hill High School. The next year, at age 22, he became the youngest superintendent in Texas. During this time he established Prairie Hill's first Boy Scout troop. The troop won many awards and Dickson was chosen to lead a group of Eagle Scouts to Canada in 1951. They paddled canoes and camped in the wilderness for twenty days. He also organized the school's first football program and led them to the regional finals in 1954. It was while at Prairie Hill that he met his future wife, Margaret, whom he married on December 22, 1951. In 1955 Dickson began working for B&B Sporting Goods in Waco. He started as a road salesman and quickly moved up to Vice President. Dickson and Bud Guinn formed B&B Athletics in 1984. His son, Doug, joined him in 1987, and became his partner in 1994. B&B currently works with over 250 high schools and colleges throughout Texas. Frank took great pride in selling many young boys their first baseball glove, and later sold gloves to their sons and grandsons. His service to the community has led him to chair the Athletic Committee for the Chamber of Commerce, serve on the Board of Directors of the Waco Boys Club, President of Cen-Tex Pee Wee Football League, Chairman of Waco State Basketball Clinic, Assistant District Administrator of Little League Baseball, and helped organize the State Baseball Coaches Clinic that is held in Waco. He also served on the Governor's Advisory Council on Lifetime Sports and had currently served on the Board of Directors of the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. In 2005, he was inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame and in 2009 he received the Waco Chamber of Commerce Dave Campbell Award. During his career, he sponsored many little league baseball and pee wee football teams. He was a member of the Baylor Bear Foundation and contributed to the athletic scholarship fund. He was an avid fan of Baylor sports throughout his life. Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and felt that he was blessed with a wonderful life. He always put his family first and was a loyal friend to many. Frank leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity that will continue for generations. He was preceded in death by parents. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Adams Dickson; three children, Debbie Magee and husband, Wayne Reed; Donna Flowers and husband, Ken; and son, Doug Dickson and wife, Cindy, all of Waco; grandchildren, Jessica Fadal and husband, Bruce; Lindsey Fuentes and husband, Douglas; Danielle Valadez and husband, Angel; Meredith Bowden and Samuel Bowden, Charlsea Flowers and Hannah Flowers; Jacob Dickson and Aubrie Dickson; great grandchildren, Hayden Fadal, William Fadal, and Douglas Fuentes II; his sister, Connie Dickson Seawright; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear relatives. Pallbearers are Jacob Douglass Dickson, Samuel Douglass Bowden, Bruce Wesley Fadal, Douglas Michael Fuentes, Angel Valadez, Kenneth Allen Flowers and Alton Wayne Reed. Honorary pallbearers are James "Bud" Guinn, Richard Hall, the Employees of B&B Athletics and all the Coaches of Central Texas.
