Frank E. Garibaldi, 85, of Bolton, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday (March 3, 2011) surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Minna (Vigilante) Garibaldi. Frank was born October 18, 1925 in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Rabbitt) Garibaldi. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II where he served in the 39th Infantry. In 1951, Frank moved to Bolton, where he made his home for the remainder of his life. Frank retired after many years from Amtrak Railroad, and also served as Past Vice General Chairman of North East Federation Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees where he served as a union representative. He had a great sense of humor and a very big heart and never refused to lend a helping hand to anyone who met his acquaintance. He enjoyed working with his hands; constantly fixing, restoring and creating numerous carpentry projects. Frank loved the outdoors and taking care of his yard and will be remembered for his love of telling a story. Moe, as he was fondly known by many, was loved by all and will be greatly missed but will live on in our hearts as we retell the stories of his life. Besides his wife of 40 years, he leaves his children, Michele Garibaldi Ozark of Columbia, Ernie Garibaldi of Bolton, and Francine Garibaldi-Cornog and her husband Shawn of Bolton; his two granddaughters who were the lights of his life, Nicole and Marisa Ozark of Columbia; his brother, Vincent Garibaldi of Ocala, FL; a sister-in-law, Eileen Garibaldi of Vernon; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Monto) Garibaldi, and his siblings, Alex of Jersey City, NJ, John of Manchester, Genevieve Freeburg and her husband Arthur of Manchester, Madelyn Bernard and her former husband Richard of East Hartford, Rita Ciccolello and her husband John of Old Bridge, NJ, and his sister-in-law, Josephine Garibaldi of Nutley, NJ. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the wonderful nurses and aides from Masonicare Hospice who guided us through this difficult process so that Frank could remain at home, surrounded by his family, during his final days. His funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. from the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., (Route 83) Vernon, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial and Military Honors at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Church, 45 Ludlow Rd., Manchester. Burial will be private. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon and evening from 3-7 p.m at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be directed to the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department, 168 Bolton Center Rd., Bolton CT 06043, or to Masonicare Hospice, 111 Founder Plaza, East Hartford, CT 06018.
