Funeral services for Fred Delwin Bradshaw, 94, are set for Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Melonie Park Church with the Rev. Todd Cepica officiating. Graveside service will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
Fred peacefully passed from this life on Sunday, November 21, 2010.
He was born outside Childress, Texas on December 24, 1915, to Louis and Mamie Bradshaw. He was preceded in death by his brothers Loyse and Clyde; a sister, Elba; and a granddaughter, Katie Woodward. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; a sister, Bernice Walters; three children and their spouses, David and wife, Sallie, Linda Gibson and husband, John, and Becky Woodward and husband, George; as well as seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Fred grew up in Lorenzo and graduated from Texas Tech in 1941 with a degree in Animal Husbandry before serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 7 oak leaf clusters, and the Distinguished Unit Badge for the 12th Bombardment Group in the North African Campaign. Upon his return, he married Arlene, his beloved wife of almost 67 years. He established a farming operation near Idalou. He was a founding member of the Heckville Gin. He served on the Idalou School Board and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Idalou, before moving his membership to Melonie Park Church in Lubbock. He was an avid sports fan, and he and Arlene enjoyed square dancing for many years. Fred loved the Lord, his family, and his country dearly and served them well.
The family will receive friends at Sanders Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to Foreign Missions at Melonie Park Church in Lubbock.
