Marlboro- Fred Carlton Collar, 82, of Higley Hill Road died late Friday night, October 14, 2011 at his home. Mr. Collar was born in Revere, Mass on May 22, 1929, the son of Fred and Dorothy (Perkins) Collar. He was raised and educated in Revere attending public schools and later proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was honorably discharged from active service in 1948. Mr. Collar had been employed as a trackman for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority retiring in 1984 following 25 faithful years of service with the Commonwealth. As a young lad, he worked on Revere Beach making frozen custard and at Suffolk Downs Race Track, caring for the horses. He was a member of the American Legion Post #76 in Jamaica Plain, Mass and held membership in the Boston Carmen's Union, Local "589". Of his leisure time activities, he enjoyed Bluegrass music, horse racing, and cutting all the wood for the winter the with his bow saw. His two dog pals, Sneaker and Alex were always there by his side. A former resident of Revere, he made his home in Marlboro with his sister Louise, brother in-law Edmund and his two nieces Danielle and Teresa since 1984. Survivors include his sister, Louise Woodlock and her husband Edmund of Marlboro and two nieces, Danielle Woodlock and Teresa Woodlock. In accordance with Mr. Collar's final wishes, services will be private with burial in King Cemetery in Marlboro.
