Mr. Fred E. Cordell, 80, of 526 S. Church Street, Waynesboro, died at 3:20 A.M., Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in Quincy Village. He had been in failing health for the past three weeks. Born January 20, 1931 in Quincy Township, PA, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Rebecca H. (Rosenberger) Cordell. He lived his early life in the Besecker's Gap area of Quincy Township and attended Quincy schools. Mr. Cordell served with the United States Army from August 20, 1952 until August 19, 1954. He and his wife, the late Clemma L. (Minnich) Cordell, were married on January 19, 1951 in Hagerstown, MD. Mrs. Cordell died on August 31, 2010. Mr. Cordell was a self-employed plumber since entering the trade in 1954. He was a member of Jacob's Church in Fairfield, PA, Eagles Club, Inc, Fraternal Order of the Eagles #1758, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731, Owl's Club, William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post #695, and Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, all of Waynesboro. He was a life member of the Waynesboro Fish and Game where he served on the Board of Directors for 30 years and served as President for 15 years. He was also a life member of the Blue Ridge Sportsman's Association, the South Mountain Fish and Game, and the Mechanics S.F. E. and Hose Company. He was also a member of the Adams County Fish and Game and the National AARP. Mr. Cordell enjoyed hunting and being with people, especially his family. He is survived by three daughters, Karen E. Brechbiel, and husband Gordon, Emily C. Myers, and Jo-Ellen Snyder and husband Randy, all of Waynesboro; one son, Mark D. Cordell and wife Kimberly of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; Andrew Brechbiel, Danielle Cox, Jason Myers, Justin Myers, Jessica Snyder and Corey Cordell; two great-grandchildren, Alaina Cox and Eliza Brechbiel; one expected great-grandchild; three sisters, Hetty Flasher, Virginia Minnich, and Esther Staley, all of Waynesboro; one brother, Richard Cordell of Fayetteville; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Flasher, Caroline Ankerbrand, Dorothy Ray, and Rosalie Cordell; and five brothers, Franklin Cordell, Daniel Cordell, Sam Cordell, Charles Cordell, and Clyde Cordell. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 10, 2011, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Richard Daughtridge officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday evening, in the funeral home.
