Fred G. Kelly died at the Lopatcong Care Center on Wednesday, August 18, 2010. He was 94. Born on February 14, 1916 to the late Antonio and Isabella (nee Rocella) Celi in Mildred PA, he was a resident of White Township since 1957. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years on March 22, 2010, the former E. Marie Varesio to whom he was married in 1945. Mr. Kelly was a graduate of Cherry Township High School in Sullivan County PA, and from East Stroudsburg State Teacher's College in 1949. While there, he played baseball, and was the team captain. He completed a Master's Degree in Education from Bucknell University in 1955. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the European theatre of World War II from 1941 to 1945. Mr. Kelly was employed by the Sullivan-Highland Joint High School in Sonestown PA, where he taught social studies and coached baseball and basketball. He was employed by the Belvidere High School in 1957, where he served as Director of Guidance, Athletic Director, and Assistant Baseball Coach until his retirement in 1981. He had an avid interest in sports, especially baseball. He greatly enjoyed playing and watching golf. He also had an interest in nature, constellations, and the night sky. Mr. Kelly was a parishioner of St. Patrick's R. C. Church in Belvidere. He was greatly respected and admired by the many students who benefitted by his guidance and mentorship over his 30 year career in education. He is survived by three daughters; Lynn of New York City; Carol of Titusville, NJ; Geri of Topanga, CA; his son Fred A. of Asbury, NJ; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Arli, Laura, Joseph, and Julien. Memorial contributions are requested by the family, and may be made to the Belvidere High School (MEMO: Scholarship Fund), 809 Oxford Street, Belvidere, NJ 07823. Donations may also be made in his memory to the National Wildlife Foundation, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, VA 20190.
